A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
