Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's ten-game without a victory start to the Premier League campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have previous associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club leadership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a leading candidate for the position.

The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club directors as they start the search of appointing a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United midfielder is out of work which means Wolves would not need to pay any buyout fee.
