Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in Johannesburg.

A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by three individuals, one of whom began shooting at him before running away.

The purpose behind the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a location in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the building overseeing the setup of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, as per local media.

"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.

Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the attack.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the scene.

Call for Public Assistance

Officials are asking eyewitnesses who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," added an official.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, Nicole Stock, said the loved ones are reeling to process his death.

"Words fail me. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about issues not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the community to not sharing explicit content from the incident, explaining this was an extremely painful time, especially for Stock's children.

His Professional Legacy

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a reality show that was broadcast on a South African digital satellite entertainment channel.

Apart from his role as a presenter, Stock was involved in various commercial activities, including private security, supplying VIP protection services and securing high-profile events across South Africa.

He was also reportedly involved in real estate operations and participated in building evictions.

His murder has shocked the country and triggered an outpouring of tributes from his fans, the authorities and political parties.

A cabinet official remarked he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's murder.

"He spoke his truth without fear or favour. He even spoke up against me and my policies as a public official. He was a pure example of who we must aspire to be," he stated.

A party figurehead commented the "audacious attack of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director expressed that "DJ Warras was more than just a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a true devotee of sound and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an profound impact."

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his magnetism, kindness and quick humor, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
