Combatants chuckle as they move on the rear of a transport truck, racing by a row of several dead bodies and driving towards the sinking Sudanese sun.

"Look at such effort. Observe this genocide," a fighter shouts.

He beams as he directs the recording device on himself and his associate militiamen, their paramilitary badges clearly shown: "The victims shall all die this way."

The combatants are celebrating a massacre that aid workers suspect resulted in the deaths of over thousands of individuals in the Sudanese city of al-Fashir in recent weeks.

A Community Cut Off from the Outside

Having held the urban area under siege for almost 24 months, from August the RSF moved to consolidate its dominance and prevent access for the leftover civilian population.

Orbital photography reveal that fighters commenced to construct a massive berm - a raised dirt embankment - surrounding the edges of the city, sealing off entry points and blocking aid.

During the encirclement escalated, 78 people were slain in an paramilitary assault on a place of worship on September 19th, while the international organization said 53 further were murdered in drone and artillery strikes on a refugee settlement in October.
