Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just seven months after leading insulting taunts aimed at their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has signed a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time at Elland Road finished through agreement in August.
Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants about Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between Bamford and the Manager
The pair had a past before Leeds moved up back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion whereas Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
Everything seems to have been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.
The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Patrick along with Leeds boss, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we would give it and accept it and that’s part and parcel of the game at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Patrick.”
Latest Career Struggles
Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Middlesbrough striker has struggled with injury in recent years.
