The Gruesome Animated Movie Conclusion That Stays With Viewers

Among all the adult-oriented animated films I have personally watched, nothing has lingered in my mind as much as the dread-soaked conclusion of the explicitly bloody and deeply subversive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, this Spain-based filmmaker created a grim, melancholy , often savage world that included a few small , desolate glimmers of optimism.

Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from an impulse to expand animation further, the filmmaker clarified that it was actually an effort to communicate a universal, cross-cultural theme regarding “the shared root of each battle.”

That message is expressed through a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly inspired by a well-known series of cuddly characters.

Growing up in a society centered on warmongering and the military-industrial complex, many of these animals are fixated on slaughtering the mythical beasts, because of a sacred text that claims them they were once kings of the woods, before the horned beings drove them out.

Others have not completely bought into the indoctrination, , choose to sample drugs or engage sexually in the forest.

In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these bright beings display sexual organs , obvious libidos.

For one especially vicious, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the battle against unicorns turns into a road to power — and particularly to dominance over his gentler, more compassionate sibling Tubby.

Bluey acts as a tormentor and a seeming psychopath , and while fear dominates his group and claims his fellow soldiers sequentially, he takes more and more power on his own behalf, via progressively bloody, harmful methods.

At the same time, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, as a spreading, destructive monster in their habitat.

“In the early stages, it feels like a humorous movie,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it turns into a more serious and melancholic film. And ultimately, it becomes a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more quirky features by a renowned filmmaker, that uncover a mischievous joy in permitting animated figures swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.

Then it evolves into more akin to a more grim work from the same director, featuring progressively graphic violence and a tangible connection to the real suffering of conflict.

Ultimately, it is a full-on extreme drama carnage.

The fear that makes the film a Halloween-friendly watch kicks in much sooner than one might expect.

Unicorn Wars is ideal for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who want to view a film they haven’t ever viewed until now, and can endure a narrative which delivers absolutely no punches.

View it in a dimly lit space without any distractions, and that ending will dig under your skin and linger.
