The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
